John Trevino Jr. Metropolitan Park at Morrison Ranch has beautiful oak groves and wild meadows.

The City of Austin Parks and Recreation Department is developing a master plan for the largely undeveloped John Treviño Jr. Metropolitan Park at Morrison Ranch. John Treviño Jr. was the first Mexican-American elected to City Council who went on to serve 14 years. This metropolitan park was named to honor his work for the East Austin community and Austin as a whole.

El Departamento de Parques y Recreación de la Ciudad de Austin está desarrollando un plan maestro para el Parque Metropolitano John Treviño Jr. en Morrison Ranch, un parque que es en gran parte subdesarrollada. John Treviño Jr. fue el primer mexicano-estadounidense electo al Concejo Municipal que sirvió 14 años. Este parque metropolitano fue nombrado para honrar su trabajo para la comunidad del este de Austin y para Austin en general.

    Why Master Plan?

    The land for John Treviño Jr. Metropolitan Park at Morrison Ranch was purchased by the Austin Parks and Recreation Department in 2003. In 2006, Austin City Council voted to name the park after John Trevino Jr.
    The Master Planning process now underway will solicit public input to help generate a shared vision for what could be built in this park to best serve the citizens of Austin. After exploring alternative concepts for the park and studying potential funding sources and implementation strategies, PARD and the master planning team will develop a final master plan that reflect public feedback and lays the groundwork for a first phase of the park to be built.

    ¿Porque hacer un plan maestro?

    El terreno para el Parque Metropolitano John Trevino Jr. en Morrison Ranch fue comprado por el Departamento de Parques y Recreación de Austin en 2003. En 2006, el Concejo Municipal de Austin votó para nombrar el parque después de que John Trevino Jr.

    El proceso de planificación maestra ahora en curso solicitará la opinión pública para ayudar a generar una visión compartida de lo que se podría construir en este parque para servir mejor a los ciudadanos de Austin. Después de explorar conceptos alternativos para el parque y estudiar las posibles fuentes de financiamiento y las estrategias de implementación, PARD y el equipo de planificación maestro desarrollarán un plan maestro final que refleje la opiniónpública y sienta las bases para la construcción de una primera fase del parque.

    Meet the Park

    Layers of the Land

    The site is divided into three topographic zones - an upper terrace, floodplain terrace, and riparian bottomlands. The shape of the site, defined by time, water, and the underlying substrates, guided the historic use of the site and will guide how the park is used in the future.

    1) Upland Terrace

    Views into and out of the park shape the overall experience. Subtle topography within upper site partially blocks  vehicles on FM 959.

    2) Agricultural Floodplain

    Lined with hedgerows and fencing, former agricultural plots now form large “rooms” in the landscape.

    3) Riparian Floodplain

    Dense bottomland riparian vegetation opens to views across the river at the bank’s edge. Land opposite the site is obscured by topography and vegetation.

    The park is full of life
    The site is part of the Blackland Prairie with influences from the Edwards Plateau and East Central Texas Plains. Due to agricultural use, fire suppression, development, and introduced species, very little intact Blackland Prairie remains.

    Conoce el Parque

    Niveles de la tierra

    El sitio está dividido en tres zonas topográficas: una terraza superior, una terraza de planicie de inundación y las tierras bajas ribereñas. La forma del sitio, definida por el tiempo, el agua y los sustratos subyacentes, guió el uso histórico del sitio y guiará cómo se utilizará el parque en el futuro.

    1) Terraza de tierras altas

    Vistas dentro y fuera del parque dan forma a la experiencia en general. La topografía sutil dentro del sitio superior bloquea parcialmente los vehículos en FM 959.
    2) Terreno de Inundación Agrícola

    Parcelas agrícolas de patrimonio ahora forman grandes “habitaciones” en el paisaje.

    3) Riparia Llanura de Inundación

    La vegetación ribereña densa del fondo se abre a las vistas al otro lado del río en el borde del banco. La tierra opuesta al sitio está oculta por la topografía y la vegetación.
    El parque esta lleno de vida
    El sitio es parte de la Pradera de Blackland con influencias de Meseta de Edwards y Llanos del Este del Centro de Tejas. Debido al uso agrícola, la extinción de incendios, el desarrollo y las especies introducidas, queda muy poco intacto Pradera de Blackland.

    1) Mesquite joven en pastos y sabanas anteriores

    2) Mirando hacia el norte desde las antiguas tierras de cultivo inundables


    3) Prado de flores silvestres en pastizales de tierras altas

    4) Antigua carretera que pasa por el bosque en pendiente


    5) Bosque Lado del Arroyo


    6) Árboles de Hackberry y Álamos de Virginia de pequeño diámetro

    There are a handful of structures on the site, concentrated in the upper terrace. 2 former residences, 3 barns, and 3 sheds are found throughout four zones - the Barn and Ranch Complex, Former Construction Staging, the House on the Ridge, and Floodplain Cropland.

    This River is not a Lake
    Water from the site drains into three different watersheds - Walnut Creek, Elm Creek, and Colorado River.

    Nearly 2/3 of the park site is in the 100 and 500 year floodplain. In addition, 3 natural water elements can be found in the park:
    1) Creek tributaries
    2) Riparian floodplain
    3) River

    With so much of the park in the floodplain, this limits what kind of permanent structures can be put in this area.

    Hay un puñado de estructuras en el sitio, concentradas en la terraza superior. Se encuentran 2 esidencias anteriores, 3 graneros y 3 cobertizos en cuatro zonas: el Complejo de Granero y Rancho, la Área de Preparación de la Construcción, la Casa en la cresta y Llanura de inundación de tierras de cultivo.

    5) Patrimonio Agrícola

    Este río no es un lago
    El agua del sitio se drena en tres cuencas hidrográficas diferentes: Walnut Creek, Elm Creek y Río Colorado.

    Casi 2/3 del sitio del parque se encuentra en la llanura de inundación de 100 y 500 años. Además, en el parque se pueden encontrar 3 elementos naturales de agua:
    1) Los tributarios de los Arroyos
    2) Riparia Llanura de Inundación
    3) Río

    Con gran parte del parque en la llanura de inundación, esto limita qué tipo de estructuras permanentes se pueden colocar en esta área.
