The Economic Development Department's Art in Public Places program (AIPP) collaborates with local and nationally-known artists to include the history and values of our community into cultural landmarks that have become cornerstones of Austin’s identity. A new Redbud Trail bridge is being designed and constructed to handle current-day loading conditions, increasing vehicular traffic, and increased safety and multi-modal transportation options for bicyclists and pedestrians. With those improvements comes the City's commitment to public art. The final location of the artwork will be determined by the selected artist, community feedback, City stakeholders, and the design team.
Take a survey and share your thoughts on the public art goals for the Redbud Trail Bridge Project. Your feedback will help guide the public art commissioning process and inspire the selected artist. The survey is open through April 15th, 2022.

Drafting artwork goals is a key milestone for each Art in Public Places project. It gives the public the opportunity to guide the public art commissioning process. These questions will help AIPP staff formulate goals for the Redbud Trail Bridge AIPP project. The goals will be embedded into the Request For Qualifications (RFQ) which interested artists apply to. The goals serve to inspire the selected artist with direct information from the nearby community. They are also the guideposts that drive what the artwork might accomplish!
