Call for Community Involvement

Thank you for your interest in the recruitment process for Austin's next Emergency Medical Services (EMS) Chief. The EMS Chief is responsible for directing the strategic planning, leadership, and oversight of all operations of the EMS Department.

The City of Austin's EMS Department provides 9-1-1 emergency medical response to the residents of Austin and Travis County, serving a population of over 2.2M individuals in a service region of over 1,039 square miles. While most of the assistance EMS gives to the community is medical in nature, the smallest part involves truly time-critical life-threatening emergencies. Yet everything EMS does is about service: service to patients, their families, and loved ones; service to the community; and service to the people who make up Austin-Travis County Emergency Medical Services.

As part of the EMS Chief recruitment and our community involvement process, the City would like to get your feedback on the characteristics and priorities we should be discussing during interviews and community discussions. Your feedback will be used to help shape those discussions and to provide us with valuable insight as we consider candidates for the position.

Thank you for your participation.

Rey Arellano, Assistant City Manager
