Music Commission Meeting // City Hall Council Chambers
Based on Music Commission Recommendation 20220207-3b approved in February 2022, Staff incorporated additional uses of funds into updated Live Music Fund Event Program guidelines, which were presented during the April 4th meeting.
Considering increasingly limited Staff capacity, the draft guidelines included a 24-month contract term for set $20,000 awards; this approach would result in less contracts to manage, while providing more impactful and targeted support to local professional musicians and promoters. However, the Music Commission reiterated their preference for 12-month contracts for $5,000–10,000 awards.
Staff will present options for serving an estimated 1,200–2,500 program applicants and an estimated 250–500 program contractors with 12-month contracts for $5,000–10,000 at the May 2, 2022, Music Commission meeting.

On February 7, 2022, the Music Commission's working group recommendation for amending the Live Music Fund Event Program pilot guidelines approved in November 2021 was discussed, refined into two options, and "Option 2" was approved.
Music Commission Recommendation 20220207-3b: The Music Commission recommends "Option 2", initiate a pilot program which:
- Includes all eligible uses (live music performance PLUS music industry production activities which support the music ecosystem) and with Musicians and Independent Promoters as eligible applicants.
- Includes Live Music Venue Promoter as an eligible applicant in year two of the program.
- Implements metrics to measure outcomes and to ensure accountability.
The City of Austin Law Department also presented on equity considerations for all City of Austin funding and contracting programs.
