In 2017, City Council passed Resolution No. 20171005-031, which directed the City Manager to identify, remove, and rename City-owned monuments and memorials that are tied to the legacy of the Confederacy. As a follow-up to the 2018 report, City Council passed Resolution No. 20200729-091, which calls for a co-creative community-based renaming process and to recognize esteemed state and local heroes, places, and concepts that uphold the noble ideals of liberty, democracy, and self-determination.
The Equity Office is collecting a list of names provided by community members to create a database that council may consult to rename assets as well as new assets.
