The Austin Animal Services Office provides sheltering, enforcement and prevention services for Austin and the unincorporated areas of Travis County. The Office works closely with Austin Pets Alive!, the Austin Humane Society, Emancipet and more than 150 rescue groups to remain the largest no kill community in the nation. Since 2011, the Animal Services Office has saved more than 95% of the 17,000 pets who come through their doors each year. The Animal Services Office has 111 employees, over 450 volunteers and an annual budget of $13.9M.
A tremendous career opportunity awaits an inclusive, talented and accomplished candidate to join the City of Austin’s Animal Service Office as their new Chief Animal Services Officer. Under general direction of an Assistant City Manager, the Chief Animal Services Officer is responsible for working closely with community partners and volunteers to promote state of the art animal welfare services.

We would appreciate your input on the qualifications and characteristics that the next Chief Animal Services Officer must have to be successful. This survey will be used to develop a candidate profile for
the City’s next Chief Animal Services Officer. The information obtained in this
survey will be used by GOV HR’s consultant Heidi Voorhees and City of Austin
Human Resources Department staff.
Following profile
development the City of Austin, in partnership with GOV HR, will begin a
nationwide search to identify candidates based on the information developed in
the profile. ACM Shorter, the hiring manager, will review the candidates and
determine which he would like to bring forward to interview.
