Overview of the Position
The Austin Parks and Recreation Department has been the trusted steward of the City of Austin’s public lands since 1928.
The Parks and Recreation Department protects and maintains parkland and urban forests, preserve trails, and programs to include a variety of sports, recreational, educational enrichment, arts, cultural opportunities, nature and aquatic activities.
The PARD mission is to inspire Austin to learn, play, protect and connect by creating diverse programs and experiences in sustainable natural spaces and public places.
A tremendous career opportunity awaits an inclusive, talented and accomplished candidate to join the City of Austin as the new PARD Director.
The PARD Director will be responsible for the day-to-day operations of all programs and initiatives of the Department. Candidates must have a record of honesty and professional integrity with a passion for public service in general, and parks and recreation services.

This survey will be used to develop a candidate profile for the City’s next Director, Austin Parks & Recreation Department. The information obtained in this survey will be used by City of Austin Human Resources Department staff.
Following profile development the City of Austin will begin a search to identify candidates based on the information developed in the profile. ACM Shorter, the hiring manager, will review the candidates and determine which he would like to bring forward to interview.
